ABOUT PicNIC?
In the garden courtyard of the John Wesley New Room on Saturday 3rd June 2006, as part of the Venn Music Festival, Polar Produce hosted PicNIC - a culinary fayre celebrating international and independent food production from the Stokes Croft area of Bristol, with a post-apocalyptic twist.
The Polar Produce crew dished up home cooking and free samples of food, kindly provided by restaurants, groceries and farm shops within Stokes Croft. Kate Rich provided feral trade coffee and sweets. Kate had traded these goods with Iranian and Arabic merchants for music and other products made in Bristol. Added to this the John Wesley Saturday morning tea group, provided homemade cakes and biscuits.
PicNIC tunes were provided by DJ Placid. Guy Claxton played his city recordings of bird calls, while field researcher, Nick Gray gave a talk on birds and the relationship between their migration patterns and climate change. Handouts on scavenging for food in the city, cannibalism and survival techniques were provided by Heath Bunting.
