About
Building on the presentation of the N.I.P. project in Portugal, it was considered useful to support the development of intermedia based work in the country by building a structure for supporting dialogue and exchange between national and international artists working in the fields of performance, interactive installation, sound art and electronic music.
In 2008, the first edition of the UM festival was presented in Lisbon. The festival took the underlying focus on the N.I.P. project - gesture and moved based interfaces for live performance - as it's core theme. This focus cuts across various contemporary subject areas from the extension and digitalisation of the human body across various networks, to virtual and physical mobility, to changes in our living patterns and environments.
Addressing some of these concepts UM 2008 took the traditional festival presentation format - exhibition, live music and sound performances, public art works, workshops and seminar discussions as a starting point, to explore how ways to create, intimate festival programmes, which allowed for artistic exchange and communication.
UM 2008 was produced in partnership with CADA, Portugal.
